IRS Criminal Investigation's Role in Combating Elder Fraud (NAPSA)

The National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA) Monthly Scam Advice Forum

Elder Fraud is considered fraudulent activity targeting individuals aged 60 or older.  Elder financial abuse is a type of elder abuse in which there is a misappropriation of financial resources or abusive use of financial control, in the context of a relationship where there is an expectation of trust, that causes harm to an older person. Many cases of elderly financial abuse fall under categories like wire fraud, tax crimes, identity theft, money laundering, or cyber scams, and may not be specifically categorized as elder fraud.

IRS-CI Special Agents are the experts at following the money and analyzing that data. IRS Criminal Investigation is committed to raising awareness and holding accountable those who prey specifically on Seniors. Guest presenter Maya Holguin, Assistant Special Agent is the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of IRS criminal investigations in the Washington, DC. Field Office, where she oversees groups of special agents investigating financial investigations such as identity theft, money laundering, and complex white collar fraud.
